Waiting Period 

You have had a waiting period if you were:

• Hired before August 31, 1973 (30-day waiting period)
• Hired on or after September 1, 2003 (90-day waiting period)

This waiting period can be purchased as service credit. To purchase the 30-day waiting period, you must be a member of ERS. To purchase the 90-day waiting period, you must be a contributing ERS member. You can use money from a Texa$aver 401(k) or 457 or another qualified plan or with a direct lump sum payment.
