ERS controls HealthSelect plan design
If you have questions about what the change of the third party administrator (TPA) for HealthSelectSM of Texas means to the HealthSelect plan, please see the frequently asked questions online for answers. We recently updated this document and will expand it throughout the transition. If you want an overview of how ERS has communicated the TPA transition information, check out the TPA Transition Communications by ERS. Neither Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, or UnitedHealthcare, determines HealthSelect plan benefits. ERS designs the plan, including copays, coinsurance, and eligibility rules within the available funding. The role of the TPA is to administer the plan according to the plan design and policy given to them by ERS. The TPA manages the provider network, provides customer service, and manages the claims process.
ERS and UnitedHealthcare have worked together to enhance the provider search tool to make it easier for you to confirm if your doctor is in the network. Click on the type of search and enter a provider or facility name. We’ve also added “Provider Search Tips” to make searching for a provider even easier. You can search for primary care physicians (PCP), specialists, behavioral health providers, and health care facilities. As a reminder, UnitedHealthCare is currently contacting providers that are not in the network and asking them to join. This means that if you don’t find your doctor listed today, you should check back before September 1 to see if he or she agreed to join the network. You can also request that your doctor join the network.
UnitedHealthcare is managing the network for the HealthSelect plan, and the network is called UnitedHealthCare Choice Plus. Although we are using the Choice Plus network, the benefits remain HealthSelectSM of Texas benefits and are not changing to UnitedHealthCare Choice Plus benefits. If you’d like a reminder of what the HealthSelect plan covers, take a look at the HealthSelect webpage on the ERS website.
