Additional Benefits of Long-Term Care Insurance

Refund of Premium Upon Death Benefit

A Refund of Premium Upon Death Benefit is included in your coverage.

If you die while covered under the plan at age 65 or younger, this benefit will pay your estate an amount equal to 100% of the premiums you have paid to date, minus the total of all benefits payable under the policy.

If you die prior to age 75 while covered under the plan, this benefit will pay your estate a portion of the premiums you’ve paid, minus any benefits paid or payable. Beginning on your 66th birthday, the percentage of premiums paid decreases by 10% each year. Any benefits received are subtracted from this amount.

No refund of premium occurs if:

  • you die on or after your 75th birthday, or
  • your coverage is continued on a Nonforfeiture basis on the date of your death.

Stay At Home Benefit

You may receive benefits for Care Planning Visits, home modifications, and/or certain expenses not otherwise covered. You must be living in your home to be eligible, and John Hancock must have determined that your Qualification Period has begun. The Stay at Home Benefit is equal to 30 times your Nursing Home Daily Maximum Benefit (DMB). This benefit does not reduce the amount of your Lifetime Maximum Benefit (LMB).

Bed Reservation Benefit

The plan will continue to pay nursing home or alternate care facility benefits for up to 60 days per calendar year if you leave the facility on a short-term basis during the time you are receiving benefits.

Alternate Plan of Care

If the John Hancock Care Coordinator identifies alternatives to the current plan that are both appropriate for you and cost-effective, an alternate plan of care can be established by mutual agreement between you, a licensed health care practitioner, and John Hancock.

The alternate plan may provide benefits for services or supplies not otherwise covered by the plan. Any benefits paid under an alternate plan of care will reduce the LMB.

International benefits

If the following conditions are met, this plan pays the actual charges for any day covered services are used, up to the International DMB, which is 75% of the DMB level that applies in the U.S.:

  • You are permanently residing outside the U.S. (50 states and the District of Columbia).
  • You provide John Hancock with proof of benefit eligibility
  • Services are based on a plan of care prescribed by a licensed health care practitioner.
  • The Qualification Period has been met.
  • You continue to meet the eligibility requirements under the policy.

Waiver of Premium

Your premium payments will be waived once you complete the Qualification Period, provided you meet the benefit eligibility requirements under the policy on that date. The waiver will continue as long as you remain eligible for benefits.
