Tobacco Policy

  • Under state law, all people enrolled in Texas Employees Group Benefits Program (GBP) health insurance plans must certify their status as tobacco users or non-users. 

    No longer using tobacco? If you or any dependent you cover has quit using tobacco, sign into your account and click the Tobacco User Certification link to certify a change in tobacco use status.

  • Use your online account to certify tobacco use by following these steps: 

    1. On the Tobacco User Certification page, check “Yes” or “No” to accurately indicate your status as a tobacco user or non-user and do the same for all your dependents.
    2. Check the box that indicates you understand and agree to the conditions of tobacco certification.
    3. Click Save.

    Choose to Quit tobacco premium alternative

    Choose to Quit is a program that encourages a tobacco-free lifestyle and allows tobacco users to have their Texas Employees Group Benefits Program (GBP) tobacco user premiums waived for the plan year.     Reporting fraud

    If you have witnessed someone insured through the GBP, including a dependent, using a tobacco product five or more times within the past three consecutive months, please report this information to ERS.
