Board of Trustees selects BlueCross and BlueShield of Texas as HealthSelect plan administrator beginning September 1, 2017

The ERS Board of Trustees has selected Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) as the third party administrator (TPA) for HealthSelectSM of Texas and Consumer Directed HealthSelect of Texas. The six-year contract for medical administrative services begins September 1, 2017.

BCBSTX has served previously as TPA for HealthSelect of Texas. UnitedHealthcare, the current TPA, was awarded the current contract in 2012. Rebidding the contract helps ERS determine that health plan participants and the State of Texas are getting the best possible value and service.

The TPA processes claims and manages the provider network as well as disease management and wellness programs. The TPA also provides information to members through the HealthSelect call center, website, direct-mail and other channels.

ERS manages the contract and is responsible for determining eligibility and enrollment for the health plans. Additionally, ERS establishes the plan design, including setting copays, coinsurance and deductibles.

More information will be provided in the coming months and during summer enrollment, prior to September 1, 2017, when BCBSTX becomes the HealthSelect TPA. Check the HealthSelect Transition site on the ERS website for announcements and updates.
